Cost is an important issue when considering your study abroad options.

Australia is one of the most popular destinations in the world for international students.  Today there are over 550,000 full fee paying international students undertaking study in Australia.

Ok, so it’s popular, but how much does it cost?

Study in Australia – undergraduate

According to The Australian, one of Australia’s leading newspapers, international students are paying over A$40,000 a year to study undergraduate degrees at the country’s best universities.

The most expensive universities for those who want to study in Australia for a bachelor degree are:

  • The University of Sydney – A$42,961
  • The Australian National University – $40,703

The average annual tuition fees for bachelor degrees across all universities is A$30,840.

Put all that together and it means that you’ll pay over A$90,000 to obtain a three year undergraduate degree.

At the top universities, the cost will be more than A$120,000.

And don’t forget that you will need to add accommodation and living costs on top.

The good news is that there are cheaper alternatives.  The lowest cost universities for international students, charging less than A$24,000 in annual fees, are:

  • Charles Darwin University
  • University of Southern Queensland, and
  • University of the Sunshine Coast.

Study in Australia – post graduate

We’ve covered the average costs of undergraduate degrees, but what about postgraduate students who want to study in Australia?

Over 40 percent of international students in Australia are studying at the post graduate level.

The tuition fees are roughly the same as for undergraduate degrees.  Again the highest annual cost options are:

  • The University of Sydney – A$42,959
  • The Australian National University – $42,128

The average annual tuition fee for masters degree across all universities is $31,596.
