Happy New Year!

Our most popular post in 2017 – shared over 950 times – focused on changes to the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students (the National Code), including new rules for institutions working with agents.

Click here to read the earlier post.

The changes place greater responsibility on educational institutions for controlling their education agents, and the quality of service they provide to students.

The new rules start today – 1 January 2018.

Australia’s Department of Education and Training ran webinars on the changes in the latter part of 2017, and a copy of the webinar is now available on the Department’s website. (Click here to link to the webinar).

The content on education agents starts at the 9 minute mark, and runs for about 2 minutes.

Help with compliance

education agents

Complying with the new rules might mean that you have to make some changes to your approach to managing your education agents.

Our agent portal solution can support you to implement best practice education management practices, including complying with the new requirements of the National Code.

In particular the new rules are more explicit about:

  • the institution's processes for monitoring the activities of the education agent in representing the provider, and ensuring the education agent is giving students accurate and up-to-date information on the registered provider’s services (4.2.3)

  • the requirement for an institution to immediately terminate its relationship with an education agent where the institution becomes aware, or has reason to believe, that the education agent is engaging in false or misleading recruitment practices. (If the institution becomes aware, or has reason to believe, that an employee or subcontractor of the education agent is engaging in those practices, then it must require the education agent to terminate its relationship with the employee or subcontractor who engaged in those practices.) (4.5)

Our agent portal solution makes it super easy for you to update your agents regularly with the latest information, and to upload the latest marketing and course information for them.

Whenever you post, or upload a document, your agents are automatically notified. They can log in at any time to access the most up to date information on your institution and courses.

We are also laser focused on education agent professionalism and integrity, and the agent portal solution includes our Education Agent Alert service.

Whenever we hear about an education who is alleged to have been behaving unethically or dishonestly you receive an alert notification by email and in your portal.  You can then take the action required by the new rules. (See examples of our previous Education Agent Alerts.)
